The educational needs of children with DCC vary significantly, but the goals that each has is similar. These children want to be stimulated in creative, hands-on learning environments, in which unique learning styles are embraced and acceptance of cognitive differences are the norm.

Each child with a DCC comes to the classroom with varying degrees of neurological and developmental challenges and strengths. This diversity makes research on educational strategies very difficult. To date there are no experimentally controlled studies of academic interventions specifically for DCC. However, thanks to the collective wisdom from NODCC members and knowledge from research with children who have similar behaviors, we have gathered a collection of tools to support effective communication between parents and the classroom teacher.

  • Parent-Professional Communication Packet Each child is unique and a well-constructed introduction packet can help teachers and other professionals understand your child more quickly and accurately.
  • IEP This section provides information about the Individualized Education Plan process.
