Local Gatherings & Fundraisers

Families and friends of the NODCC host local gatherings and fundraisers to bring together those living with a disorder of the corpus callosum and support our community. These events are a great way to meet others in your area, share experiences, and build connections.

While the NODCC helps support and promote these gatherings, they are planned and coordinated by local families. If you’re hosting an event or would like to organize one in your area, we’d love to hear from you! Email us at [email protected] to get started.

  • Practical and Affirming Strategies for Supporting Children's Social Skills

    November 18, 2025  5:00 pm - 6:15 pm

    Presenter: Kelly Buchanan, M.A.

    Register Here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/_mtJqhpXQXyY1Vvxfc1i5Q

Disorders of the corpus callosum are often associated with social challenges, including difficulty understanding nonverbal cues, navigating conversations, interpreting humor and sarcasm, and interpreting others' emotions. This webinar will introduce evidence-based, practical, and neuroaffirming strategies for teaching social skills in youth with developmental disabilities. The aim of the webinar is to provide strategies that parents and educators can use in daily interactions to increase social awareness and understanding and help youth build confidence and connectedness.

Kelly Buchanan is clinical psychology doctoral candidate at Binghamton University who is currently completing her predoctoral internship at Kennedy Krieger/Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. She has worked with autistic and otherwise neurodivergent youth across clinical, recreation and education settings for over a decade, and enjoys working to empower parents and educators with neuroaffirming and evidence-based knowledge to support the young people they care about. Kelly has led several community service and training initiatives during her time at BU, including social and wellness groups for neurodivergent adolescents and adults and training for local educators to support students with complex social and behavioral needs in their classrooms.

*This seminar will be recorded and published on the NODCC YouTube channel. If you do not wish for your image to appear in the recording, please keep your camera turned off during the session.*
